How to Use Custom Fields in Automations

Last update: Aug 26, 2025

In the Automation Builder, click the plus (+) icon to add a new step. From the Add Next Step menu, select Condition:

Email automation builder interface showing the option to add a next step. Available choices include sending an email, setting a delay, or creating a condition to split the flow with if/else logic.

The flow will then split into two branches, depending on the rules you set:

Automation flow with a condition block that splits into Yes and No paths. Each path shows a plus button for adding steps, ending with 'End of Automation' markers.

Once you’ve created a custom field, you can use it in your conditions, just like groups, to filter contacts more precisely.

Automation workflow with a condition based on custom fields. The condition checks if the subscription type is Free, branching contacts into Yes or No paths, each followed by a different email action.

NOTE:

If you add multiple filters, a contact must meet all conditions to continue along the Yes path.

Contacts that don’t match one or more conditions will be directed to the No path.
