Token Usage in SiteGround AI Studio
What Are Tokens?
In SiteGround AI Studio, a token is the unit that measures the amount of data processed and provided by the AI models as part of the SiteGround AI Studio.
Every piece of action – from your request – to the AI model’s Output, is broken down into tokens. The number of tokens used depends on how long and complex both your request and the AI model’s Output are.
Each time you send a message, generate an image, use an AI Agent or any other functionality of the SiteGround AI Studio, a portion of tokens is deducted from your monthly allowance. This includes cases where your request is processed but the desired Output cannot be provided due to content restrictions, applicable policies and/or terms violations, and/or legal compliance requirements – since the system still uses tokens to analyze and evaluate your Input before generating the Output.
How Token Calculation Works?
Every AI-powered task involves two types of tokens:
- Tokens used for the Input – the data submitted to the AI model (prompts, including our additional system instructions and files you upload, if any);
- Tokens used for the Output – the AI model’s generated response.
The total amount of the tokens used is the sum of the Input and Output tokens.
Each task type, including but not limited to text generation, image creation, web research, or AI Agent operation – uses varying amounts of tokens.

Text Generation
Token usage in text-based tasks depends on:
- The length of your prompt and our system instructions;
- The length and complexity of the AI model’s Output;
- The AI model you use.

Image Generation and Editing
In addition to the above aspects, image-based tasks use tokens based on image size and resolution, and complexity.
Each image generated or edited counts separately toward your monthly allowance.

Web Research and File Analysis
When an AI model performs web searches or analyzes uploaded files, it processes larger volumes of information.
These actions typically consume more tokens than standard text generation, depending on the Input size (incl. our system instructions) and the amount of data retrieved.

AI Agent-Based Actions
SiteGround AI Agents perform multi-step, specific tasks, often combining several operations such as but not limited to writing, image creation, formatting, and/or API calls. Their token usage includes all steps involved.
Because AI Agents often combine several actions and may involve external API access, their token usage includes the tokens usage of all underlying steps.
Monitoring Your Token Usage
You can track your current token usage directly inside SiteGround AI Studio interface and through the Client Area at any time.
Tokens Reset
The number of tokens included in your SiteGround AI Studio plan resets automatically each month. Unused tokens do not carry over in the next monthly period. You may review the scheduled reset date at any time in the Client Area and/or in the SiteGround AI Studio interface.
