But first, why SiteGround or Hostinger? If you’ve already decided to make the switch, then you may already know that SiteGround is renowned for its outstanding customer support, superior website performance, and robust security features. If you’re looking to scale your website, enhance its reliability, and work with a hosting service that’s by your side every step of the way, SiteGround is the host for you.

How to Migrate Your Website From Hostinger to SiteGround

Now let’s get down to the business of how to migrate from Hostinger to SiteGround. Migrating your website can be accomplished in several ways depending on your technical expertise and preferences. Here are the top methods to make the switch.

1. Migrate Your WordPress Site With the SiteGround Migrator Plugin

If you’re looking for a no-brainer, wildly simple solution, then the SiteGround Migrator plugin is the easiest and fastest way to move a WordPress site from Hostinger to SiteGround.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Sign up for SiteGround Managed WordPress Hosting: During this process, you’ll be asked to submit the domain name (of the existing website you wish to migrate) into the registration form. From there you’ll be walked through the process of creating your account.
  2. Complete website creation and get a token: When you log in for the first time, you’ll see a notification on your SiteGround account homepage that has a Set up site button—this takes you to the first step of the website creation process.

The domain name used in the order will already be showing here, so now you would just need to verify it and continue to the next step where, under Migrate Website you click on Select.

Choose the Superfast WordPress AutoMigration option and complete the steps as instructed. At this point, you’ll get the token that will be needed for the SiteGround Migrator Plugin.

  3. Install the plugin: Log into your existing, Hostinger-hosted WordPress admin dashboard, navigate to Plugins, and search for SiteGround Migrator. Install it and, once installed, be sure to activate it.
  4. Provide your token: After activating the plugin, you will need to provide your token, which you acquired in step 2.
  5. Run the Hostinger to SiteGround migration: Click Start Transfer. The plugin will handle the rest, transferring your WordPress files and database to SiteGround.

This process may take some time, but you can keep track of its progress via the plugin interface. Once complete, you’ll receive a notification. At this point, SiteGround creates a 48-hour version of your website at a temporary URL, where you can review everything to make sure it looks and works as it should.

All look good? If so, the process is almost complete – you’ll just need to repoint your domain. To do this, you’ll want to switch your DNS settings to point to your SiteGround website. Simply log into your domain registrar’s management panel, and update your nameservers to ns1.siteground.net and ns2.siteground.net.

Important:

Changing the nameservers of your domain switches the entire DNS zone to SiteGround and would disconnect any third-party DNS records you may currently be using, such as those used for email or other marketing services. If you have custom DNS records, make sure to first add them in your DNS zone editor in Site Tools, and then change the nameservers as a last step.

And that’s it. Hostinger migration to SiteGround truly couldn’t be easier.

2. Let SiteGround Do the Work of Migrating your Website

Well, actually it could be a wee bit easier. That’s because the SiteGround Migrator plugin isn’t actually your only option for a worry-free migration. If your website is not on WordPress or you simply prefer expert assistance, SiteGround offers a professional migration service. Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for SiteGround: Choose a hosting plan and set up your account.
  2. Submit a request: In your SiteGround dashboard, go to the Help Menu. Select View Help Center > Contact Us > Transfer or set up a new site > Transfer website.
  3. Provide access details: Grant SiteGround’s team access to your Hostinger account to facilitate the transfer.

This option is ideal for users who want peace of mind knowing that experienced professionals are managing the Hostinger migration to SiteGround—and, of course, for those who want a completely hands-off transfer.

3. Perform a Manual Website Migration Yourself

Lastly, if you don’t mind rolling up your technical sleeves, you might want to handle the Hostinger migration yourself.

In this case, a manual migration from Hostinger to SiteGround gives you complete control. But—and this is a big “but”—a manual migration requires quite a bit more work and know-how on your end. This is why we recommend using the SiteGround Migrator for an easy, automated transfer, or submitting a request to our team in case you’re not using WordPress, or want to be sure the process is handled properly.

That said, chances are if you’re looking to go this route, then you probably already have some impressive tech skills. If you need a refresher, though, please read our article on how to transfer a WordPress site manually.
