What happens to files and connected accounts when you share a chat
Sharing a chat in AI Studio does not automatically expose all your data. However, certain content requires your attention before you share. This article explains what happens to uploaded files and connected account data when you create a public link.
Uploaded files
When you share a chat that includes uploaded files (PDFs, CSVs, spreadsheets, etc.):
- Visitors see placeholders only: The actual file content is not accessible to anyone viewing the shared link
- Original file names are not visible: Placeholders with generic names (like “1 file uploaded) show that a file was uploaded, but don’t allow anyone to download or view the content
- Your files remain private: Original files stay in your account and are never copied to public versions
This protects your intellectual property and prevents sensitive documents from being exposed. Below is an example of a shared chat containing an attached PDF file.

Connected accounts
If you share a chat created with an agent that uses third-party account integrations (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, WordPress, Email Marketing), additional safeguards apply.
Connected account data warning
When sharing a chat that uses third-party integrations and has connected accounts, AI Studio displays the following confirmation prompt
“This chat contains connected account data.”
You must explicitly confirm before proceeding by pressing the Continue button. This ensures you understand that context from your connected accounts may be visible in the shared chat.

What gets shared
The shared chat may include:
- Responses generated using data from your connected accounts
- Context that references your account information
- Results that were created based on your integration settings
What doesn’t get shared
- Login credentials
- Full account access
- The ability to execute actions on your accounts
Visitors can see the conversation and results, but cannot perform actions or access your actual accounts.
When someone continues a publicly shared chat
If another AI Studio user continues a shared chat:
- This creates a private copy of the shared chat in their own account.
- They see a warning that the chat contains context from the original author’s connected accounts
- They’re informed that results may not apply to their own accounts
- They must connect their own integrations to run any actions
- Uploaded files are not carried over from the original chat and appear as placeholders
How to revoke access
You can delete a public link at any time to stop sharing a chat with others. Here are the steps:
- Go to your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
- Select Public Links.

- Open the Actions (kebab) menu of the link you wish to delete.
- Click Delete Link.

Access is revoked immediately. Anyone trying to use the deleted link will see a “Not found” page.
You can also delete all public links at once using the bulk Delete option.

Before you share: Essential checklist
- Review the chat content for sensitive information
- Check if you’ve uploaded files that contain private data. Even though files appear as placeholders, the conversation may reference their contents and unintentionally reveal sensitive information.
- Confirm whether the agent has connected accounts active.
- Remember that each time you share, AI Studio creates a new public link – previous shares remain active unless deleted
