How to Change My Website's Domain Name

Once a domain name is registered, it’s fixed in the DNS and can’t be changed. To change your domain, simply purchase a new one and connect it to your website. SiteGround makes this quick and easy.

To change the domain name associated with your website, go to your Client Area > Websites. From there click the kebab menu for the desired site and hit Change Primary Domain. On the page that opens input the new desired domain name and click Confirm. Make sure that the new domain name is registered and pointed to your SiteGround website. Note that you can not select a SiteGround temporary domain name at this step. It is available only upon new site creation.

The new domain name should be registered and pointed to your SiteGround website before the primary domain name change.

Note that if you are collaborating on this website with someone else, the change should be made by the website owner.

If you had an SSL certificate on the old domain name, shortly after the domain name change we will automatically reissue a new free Let’s Encrypt certificate on your new domain. You can manage this certificate or order a paid premium SSL from Site Tools > Security > SSL Manager.
